Venue and Exhibitions

Art Basel takes place in Halls 1 and 2 of Messe Basel, the Swiss Exhibition Center, in the City of Basel, Switzerland.

Hall 1: Built in 1999 by Swiss architect and art collector
Theo Hotz, the hall hosts Art Unlimited, Art Statements, Art Basel Conversations and Artists Books.

Hall 2: A landmark building from the 1950s, built by Hans Hoffmann, hosts Art Galleries, Art Premiere, Art Edition and Art Magazines.

Professional Day

The Professional Day is directed at museums, artists and collectors. For them, there will be a special program in and around the art show. This includes information and discussion forums with internationally renowned speakers. Moreover, exhibiting galleries are asked to show special exhibits and campaigns on Professional Day (program will follow in May 2008).

Due to the high number of people who visit Art Basel every year, we strongly urge you to make your hotel reservations well in advance of the show dates. Please book your accommodation in Basel through this form, which must be faxed by March 18 to Basel Tourismus at +41 61 268 68 70. Their hotel reservation service will inform you regarding room prices and availability, and help you attempt to make reservations.

Guided Tours of Art 39 Basel are available daily in German, French and English. The tours are subsidized by Art Basel and operated by gcc gmbh.

AXA Art VIP Guided Tours of Art 39 Basel are available daily in German, English, French and Italian.

Art Kids

Art Basel offers a kindergarten for children aged 3-13, where they are introduced to art while their parents visit the art show, and are supervised by professionals. The Art Kids program is free of charge, and food and drink are provided.

Mandatory bag check

For safety reasons, all bags larger than 30 x 30 cm, briefcases and backpacks must be deposited at the coat check before entering the exhibition halls.
