Arratia Beer (Berlin) will show 'Be-longing', an exhibition by Matthew Metzger comprised of five paintings investigating the ontological correlation between abstraction and belonging. In 1982, AC/DC released a 12-inch single of the anthem ’For Those About To Rock (we salute you).‘ This single, lifted from the full-length LP of the same name and manufactured to be experienced separately, takes a song about social connection and unintentionally amplifies isolation and disconnection. The records individual components will be isolated within each of the paintings and provide the subject matter for each work: record, cover, black sleeve, white sleeve and mailer.
Balice Hertling (Paris) will present a site-specific installation by Reto Pulfer. 'Die Schalen Im Innern' is based on the links between artistic process, spiritual travels and the monastic investigation into the self.
Fonti (Naples) will display 'Homem Novo' (New Man) by Angolan artist Kiluanji Kia Henda. Realized especially for Art Statements, the work raises questions about the historical heritage of objects and monuments by proposing an alternative methodology for the transmission of history.
hunt kastner (Prague) will exhibit a new installation by Czech sculptor Dominik Lang at Art Statements. Using fragmentary sketches found in the long abandoned studio of his father, a figurative sculptor. This project focuses not only on the status of never realized works but also on a relationship between the work and its original idea.
Lullin + Ferrari (Zurich) will present Gitte Schäfer‘s installation "Blumenmauer". A wall, positioned in the middle of the booth, will be cover almost completely with hanging vases of different styles, types, and materials, in a Rococo/Baroque manner. Some of the vases were bought at flea markets and eBay auctions, but Gitte Schäfer has also fabricated her own vases to respond to the ones acquired. The backdrop for the vases will be a patchwork of old mirrors collaged on the wall, reflecting the receptacles and their contents and thereby amplifying the visual impression and opulence. In a nearly Duchampian gesture, the choice of ready-made flowers and vases will be pivotal to the appearance of the installation. Through her subtle interventions and selections Gitte Schäfer will transform the booth into a colorful, sensual, all-embracing installation.
Gallery Side 2 (Tokyo) will present Japanese artist Takeo Hanazawa. Based on his research on the western tradition of depicting 'The Temptation of St. Anthony', the artist will create a clay figure of St. Anthony and place it in a traditional Vietnamese "Hon Non Bo" landscape among other small sculptures.
Galeria Vidal Cuglietta (Bruxelles) will present an installation by artist Zin Taylor, featuring between 100 and 150 handcrafted objects made from wood, plaster, clay and plastic, some painted, and arranged within a series of five cubic brass cabinets of his own design. Each cabinet will display a catalog of objects that have been made about a subject - one cabinet, one subject, each displaying an array of objects.
