The 39th edition of Art Basel closed its doors on Sunday, June 8. The international reunion of the international art world attracted 60,000 artists, collectors, curators, and art lovers from around the globe. The participating galleries, Show Management, art connoisseurs, and the media were unanimous in pronouncing this a very good year for the illustrious show. Art 39 Basel demonstrated the robust health of the international art market, while confirming and enhancing its own unchallenged position as the world’s premier art fair and doing full justice to its reputation as an internationally acclaimed artworld event. The show drew 60,000 visitors and 2,300 representatives of the media.

Art Lobby, Art Basel’s informal communication platform, has a wide-ranging program in store this year, including book launches, artist conversations, and panel talks on such subjects as emerging art markets like the Middle East, China, and Israel, and art and law.
Professional Day (Friday, June 6, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) features a program geared specifically to an international audience of art experts: curators, art dealers, collectors, and artists.
This year’s Art Basel Conversations promise a varied program, featuring respected members of the international artworld discussing the development of new cultural institutions in Eastern Europe, the collection and preservation of new-media art, and galleries working at the edge of a globalized art market. The forum premieres with a conversation between artists Lawrence Weiner and Jorge Pardo.
The Stadtkino Basel again features a varied program of films by and about artists during this year’s edition of Art Basel. Art Film will be starting earlier than before, on Sunday, June 1, with the world premiere of Chiara Clemente’s film portrait of five New York-based women artists.
This year’s edition of Art on Stage, an initiative of Art Basel in association with the Theater Basel, presents the performance Drama Queens, created by the artist duo Elmgreen & Dragset (with text by Tim Etchells).
