Gallery Information |
Taka Ishii Gallery continues to maintain and develop an exhibition program based upon the dual goals of introducing international contemporary artists within Japan as well as serving as an international platform for the presentation of the work of Japanese emerging artists and contemporary masters. While the gallery aesthetic is rooted in the photographic, the program is contemporary and represented artists work in a variety of media. A yearly exhibition schedule of 8 solo and/or group presentations is supplemented by the publication of catalogs and artist books with an emphasis on the documentation and promotion of the work of emerging Japanese artists. The gallery works closely with leading Japanese art writers, cultural critics, and institutions to provide a critical context for a contemporary generation of Japanese artists both within and outside of Japan.

Yuki Kimura (*1971) utilizes a combination of contemporary digital and found media to explore the abstract potential of photographic representation. Kimura's work, presented in an installation format, refuses immediate interpretation; rather, the artist's intent is to provide multiple points of entry to alternative considerations of mediated imagery.
Kiyoji Otsuji (1923 - 2001) was a leading figure of the Japanese avant-garde and a member of both Jikken Kobo (Experimental Workshop) and Gurafikku Shudan (Graphic Group). His early experimental work and subsequent role as a university professor had a significant influence on the development of contemporary art in Japan.
