New and recent works by Michaela Eichwald, Juliana Huxtable, Klara Liden, Henrik Olesen, Heji Shin, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger and Peter Wächtler are joined by earlier moments in the practices of longtime Reena Spaulings artists K8 Hardy, Ken Okiishi and Seth Price.
One standout in this year’s presentation is a Seth Price “calendar painting” from his 2009 show at the gallery. Also featured is Death and the College Student, 1999, a video by Ken Okiishi which is paired here with a new print edition based on script notes from the artist’s 1990s notebooks. Self-portraits from K8 Hardy’s iconic, hilarious and ongoing “Positions” series also make a timely reappearance.
Reena Spaulings is especially pleased to introduce the photographic practice of Reynaldo Rivera, a Los Angeles-based artist whose documentation of 1990s queer Latinx culture is currently featured in a newly published monograph (Notes for a Disappeared City, Semiotext(e), 2020) and in this year’s Made in LA exhibition at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, a series of new large format photographs by Heji Shin can also be seen in person at the gallery in New York (Heji Shin, Big Cocks, November 15 – December 20, 2020) during the run of Art Basel Miami.
