Artists Henning Fehr and Philipp Rühr are the winners of the second BMW Art Journey award. The pair, represented by Galerie Max Mayer in Düsseldorf, was selected from artists showing in the Positions sector at the 2015 Art Basel in Miami Beach show.
Their project, "The Art of Memory: Dub Music and the CCTV Tower," is a study of today's global connections using the metaphor of the loop. Fehr and Rühr will travel to Jamaica to explore dub reggae music, then on to Beijing to the iconic CCTV tower. Seemingly unrelated, the Beijing architectural landmark designed by Rem Koolhaas and the Jamaican music style both follow a loop structure.
The jury included Juan Gaítan, Director Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art (Mexico), Massimiliano Gioni, Artistic Director New Museum (New York City), Gabriele Horn, Director KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin); Victoria Noorthoorn, Director Museo de Arte Moderna (Buenos Aires), and Bisi Silva, Director Centre for Contemporary Art (Lagos).
