Foksal Gallery Foundation was established in 1997 and opened in its current location in the center of Warsaw in 2001. In May 2015 the gallery space reopened in the new building redesigned by Diener&Diener architecture office. Foksal Gallery Foundation aims at promoting contemporary Polish Art both locally and internationally and has been taking part in various art fairs since its appearance at Liste in 2000. It also undertakes a wide range of activities in the artistic and institutional fields. The founder, Andrzej Przywara, former art critic and curator has championed the careers of artists, who transformed Polish contemporary art. Foksal Gallery Foundation represents 16 contemporary artists, among them, Paweł Althamer, Paulina Ołowska, Wilhelm Sasnal, Monika Sosnowska, Piotr Uklański and Artur Żmijewski. Gallery artists work across a wide spectrum of practices and their works have been included in numerous international exhibitions, biennales and are part of significant public and private collections. Foksal Gallery Foundation works with two important estates – of Erna Rosenstein and Edward Krasiński. The studio of the latter along with the glass pavilion built on the terrace of the studio was transformed into ‘The Avant-Garde Institute’ to foster modern art heritage through exhibitions, performances and lectures.
