Galerie Max Hetzler was founded in 1974 in Stuttgart, moved to Cologne in 1982, and is located in Berlin since 1993, currently with two venues in Berlin-Charlottenburg. The gallery opened a branch in Paris in 2014, and is represented with a space in London since fall 2018. Since its inception, Galerie Max Hetzler has presented exhibitions of established and emerging contemporary art and its program has continued to evolve with the artists it has been showing since the 1980s. The gallery's practice comprises the publication of numerous exhibition catalogues, monographs and artist books, as well as the regular participation at fairs worldwide, such as Art Basel since 1982 and Art Basel Miami Beach since 2002.
