NANZUKA was founded by Shinji Nanzuka in 2005 in Tokyo, in the previous name Nanzuka Underground (2005-2011). Since 2013, the gallery opened Hong Kong brunch named AISHONANZUKA as the joint gallery with Aisho Miura Arts.
It is dedicated to rediscover the artists who have been ignored among Japanese fine art scene after The World War II, such as Keiichi TANAAMI (born in 1936), who is a very first artist represents Japanese psychedelic and neo pop style since 1960’s; Hajime Sorayama (born in 1947), a legendary artist both within Japan and abroad, armed with his astounding sense of realistic expressional techniques, and renowned for his "Sexy Robot" series ; Harumi Yamaguchi (Born in 1936) is a female artist, dedicated to the advertising products (e.g., posters, illustrations) in the 1970's and 1980's, depicted female figures with using airbrush techniques, that established herself as an illustrator symbolized the era.
Besides, it raises Japanese young talented artists who will explore the new possibilities of the international art scene in the future such as Hiroki Tsukuda, Akiyoshi Mishima, Ryuichi Ohira, Makoto Taniguchi and Mustone, whilst undertaking to introduce international artists includes Todd James (US), Erik Parker (US), Daniel Arsham (US), Oliver Payne (UK), Frank Nitsche (GR), and etc.
Meanwhile, it has been communicating with other scenes, such as fashion, music, and design actively, and attempting experimental challenges for the main problems among the contemporary art scene, such as “art and design”, “merchandise and art”, and “the connection between daily life and beauty.”
