Star Gallery
Since its creation in 2005, Star Gallery was first known for successfully presenting and nurturing emerging local artists, while in recent years, it has engaged with wider topics, such as photojournalism in the context of contemporary art and Chinese modernist sculpture. Having encountered more and more individuals with shared ideals and beliefs in art over the past fifteen years, Star Gallery currently works proactively with artists of different generations and nationalities. In addition to regularly presenting gallery shows, Star Gallery also works with museums and organizations internationally with the aim of promoting its artists. Only during the past year, Star Gallery has contributed to solo exhibitions by Chen Ke at Yuz Museum and Sun Yanchu at OCAT Xi’an, as well as the publication of Liu Heung Shing’ s A Life in a Sea of Red by Steidl. Furthermore, Lei Lei, an artist represented by gallery for many years, won the Jimei x Arles Discovery Award in 2018. In the beginning of 2019, Star Gallery moved back to the 798 Art Zone with the debut exhibition Spring Breeze: Liu Heung Shing winning the only prize of the Beijing Gallery Weekend as judged by a team of international academics, curators, critics and collectors including Mark Rappolt from ArtReview, Marcella Lista from the Pompidou Center and Uli Sigg. With artistic value as its primary pursuit, Star Gallery is committed to presenting the cultural landscape of our era through various activities such as exhibiting and publishing, hoping to grow with its artists and collectors in China’s burgeoning art market.
