Arratia Beer
Founded by Euridice Arratia and Elizabeth Beer ARRATIA BEER focuses on producing projects that specifically challenge the limitations of the gallery space. This strategy allows emerging artists to experiment and take risks that are not always possible within the context of a commercial gallery. Outside of the gallery ARRATIA BEER works alongside artists, facilitating the realization of their projects in off-site locations and non-profit institutions. The gallery has also published and co-published a series of artists’ books including, Katerina Šedá: 1 x Daily Before Meals, Fernanda Fragateiro: Bildraum, Pablo Rasgado: Unfolded Architecture. ARRATIA BEER is committed to a contemporary program of international artists working with a variety of media such as performance, video, sound installation, drawing and photography. Artists represented by ARRATIA BEER have participated in international exhibitions such as documenta 13 (Omer Fast and Javier Téllez), 12th Biennnale de Lyon (Ed Fornieles) documenta 12 (Katerina Šedá), the Whitney Biennial (Omer Fast and Javier Téllez), 29th Bienal de Sao Paulo (Gabriel Acevedo Velarde) Manifesta7 (Omer Fast, Javier Téllez, and Katerina Šedá), Dublin Contemporary (Fernanda Frageteiro), and the 54th Venice Biennale (Omer Fast). Further, the gallery has proudly surveyed the recognition awarded to its represented artists. In 2008 Patty Chang was nominated for the Hugo Boss Prize at the Guggenheim Museum (NY). In 2009 Omer Fast received the Preis der Nationalgalerie für Junge Kunst. In 2013 Jennie C. Jones was awarded the Joyce Alexander Wein Artist Prize and in 2016 Mary Reid Kelley was awarded the Baloise Art Prize for her video installation at Art Basel, Statements.
