Suzanne Lacy (*1945) is a pioneer of feminist and activist performance art. With her participatory Social Practice, often realized in cooperation with local communities, the Los Angeles-based artist campaigns against social injustices and for marginalized groups. Since the early 1970s, she has been focussing attention on rape, giving a public voice to individuals who identify as women, and naming the patriarchal roots of this violence.
At the Social Fight Club, curated by Benedikt Wyss and Inga Schonlau, Suzanne Lacy’s documentary film The Men of De tu puño y letra is screened in the Schauspielhaus foyer. Social Fight Club – The Violence Fair creates space for physical experience and collective reflection: two weeks of discourse and action featuring performing and visual arts, workshops, film and gaming sessions, shared meals and verbal battles, combat sports, and power parties.
In cooperation with Museum Tinguely, where her exhibition ‹Suzanne Lacy: By Your Own Hand› is on view through 7 September 2025.
