The Kabinett sector offers 24 concisely curated installations within the booths of the Galleries' and Editions’ sectors, and range from thematic group exhibitions to art-historical showcases to solo presentations.

Highlights this year include a leading work in vanguardist photography in Argentina, the heralded photomontage series “Sueños (Dreams)” by German-Argentinian artist Grete Stern at Jorge Mara - La Ruche. The photomontages illustrate dreams sent in to Idilio magazine (where Stern worked) by readers, and often explore surrealism through a feminist lens.

Upon entering the Kabinett section of the Kalfayan booth, visitors will encounter Greek-Egyptian artist Farida El Gazzar’s bold-colored paintings and black-and-white pencil drawings, the former mounted in vintage frames whose subjects - ordinary objects of daily life - are depicted in the artist’s unique style as symbols of resistance and timelessness.

The kurimanzutto gallery’s Kabinett project will present Haegue Yang’s ongoing paper collage series Trustworthies, a composite of geometric vinyl arrangements, graph paper, and the insides of paper strips torn from bank-issued security envelopes for delivering credit cards and PIN numbers, a kind of camouflage that conceals personal data.

China’s first short story in modern Chinese A Madman’s Diary, written by Lu Xun in 1918, is the source of inspiration for Chinese artist Cheng Ran of the Galerie Urs Meile’s Kabinett presentation. Titled DD-MM-YYYY, this multimedia work consists of three video installations of re-edited video collages in which the author constructs his own narratives about one moment in the history New York, Hong Kong, and Jerusalem.
