Highlights from the 2017 Art Basel show in Miami Beach

Several new elements came to play at this year's Art Basel show in Miami Beach: 20 new galleries participated, 10 of them graduating to the Galleries sector; Philipp Kaiser debuted as the Public sector curator; and both exhibitors and over 82,000 guests enjoyed wider aisles, roomier booths, and enhanced lounging areas thanks to a completely redesigned exhibition layout by Tom Postma Design.

This year’s show included 11 large-scale works in our Public sector, curated for the first time by Philipp Kaiser and supported by MGM Resorts Art & Culture, with a live performance by Jim Shaw and his D’red D’warf band.  Our Film program hosted over 15 films and videos in SoundScape Park, as well as a special evening screening of Boom for Real: The Late Teenage Year of Jean-Michel Basquiat (2017) by director Sara Driver.

Other highlights were the Conversations Premiere Artist Talk with renowned conceptual artist Charles Gaines who discussed his work and practice with Bryan Stevenson, Executive Director, Equal Justice Initiative, and Naima Keith, Deputy Director of Exhibitions and Programs at the California African American Museum.

Journalists from across the world attended the show and wrote overwhelmingly positive reviews - see what they had to say here
