Kabinett returns to Hong Kong bigger and richer

After last year’s successful debut, Art Basel’s Kabinett sector in Hong Kong will showcase 30 thematically-focused projects this March.

The Kabinett sector returns to Hong Kong this year with a strong line-up of 30 thematic focused projects, comprising solo and paired presentations by both established and emerging artists.

The sector presents precisely curated exhibitions in an architecturally delineated space within gallery booths. This year, there is stronger focus on works by Asian artists, with a significant presence of mid-career artists who have participated in some of the world’s most important art biennales, such as Venice, Shanghai, Warsaw, Yinchuan, Genova, Lyon, Honolulu and Chengdu.

From Hong Kong, pioneering conceptual and performance artist Kwok Mang-ho (aka Frog King) will restage his iconic ‘Frog King Calligraphy Shop’, first shown in 1992, at 10 Chancery Lane Gallery. Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco’s ‘Working Tables’ (2010) on view at kurimanzutto can be likened to an archiving experiment of objects collected and found when creating his works.

Presenting at the Hong Kong show for the first time, Egyptian artist of Armenian ancestry Chant Avedissian, will transform the entire booth of Sabrina Amrani with abstract and geometric works executed from late 2016, thus re-examining his artistic career and the essence of Egypt’s culture and identity.
