Highlights from the Discoveries and Insights sectors in Hong Kong

Strong emerging artists and compelling thematic exhibitions feature this year

The sixth edition of Art Basel’s show in Hong Kong is set to enthrall, with the Discoveries and Insights sectors presenting strong solo projects and curated exhbitions that reflect key practices in Asia and Asia Pacific.

A powerful platform for new talent, Discoveries features 25 galleries offering solo projects created specifically for the show. Among them are 10 newcomers: Capsule Shanghai, Commonwealth and Council, Don Gallery, Galerie Emanuel Layr, Hannah Hoffman Gallery, Josh Lilley, JTT, MadeIn Gallery, Öktem&Aykut and Tarq.

Highlights include Ali Kazim’s immersive installation drawing from the landscape of Lahore, at Jhaveri Contemporary. At mor charpentier, Carlos Motta will display a representation of the ‘monstrous’, and at ROH Projects, Faisal Habibi will question the very nature of objects.

Meanwhile, Insights once again presents cutting-edge artists from Asia and Asia-Pacific. This year, 28 galleries will bring together exceptional historical materials and compelling thematic exhibitions, including a historically-significant presentation by Chu Wei Bor and Fong Chung Ray of Asia Art Center; feminist photography dating from the 1990s through to recent prints, by Yurie Nagashima of Maho Kubota Gallery; and Vivek Vilasini’s questioning of climate change, at Sakshi Gallery.
