Cor-Ten steel

Robert Indiana's LOVE sculptures are among the most recognized public artworks in the world. Indiana created his image LOVE in 1964. What began as a work on paper developed into an influential painting and sculpture series that he would return to throughout his six-decade career. In 1966, Indiana carved his first LOVE sculpture, and kept returning to the motif for the rest of his career—its four bold letters becoming a symbol of the era’s message of peace and love. Here, four LOVEs are stacked in Cor-Ten steel and arranged so their four O’s meet in the centre. Indiana first used this layout in a painting titled LOVE Wall in 1966.
