Art Basel is excited to partner with Live Nation for the first time to present GOD HATES SPACE, an immersive project by GENER8ION, formed by producer and composer Surkin and filmmaker Romain Gavras. The inter-disciplinary pair, known for their distinct artistic vision, is behind the viral music video "STORM" featuring Swedish rapper Yung Lean, which has accumulated more than 37 million views on YouTube.
The audiovisual installation, displayed on a 12-meter double-sided screen will be presented free of charge to the public at the Grand Palais’s Rotonde d’Antin, a space brought into the Art Basel Paris program for the first time and transformed into an immersive audiovisual environment where film, sound, and architecture converge.
This project reflects Art Basel Paris’s commitment to fostering encounters between disciplines, artistic practices, and audiences, offering stimulating, unexpected experiences accessible to the widest possible public.
At the intersection of contemporary art, music, cinema, and the creative industries, this first collaboration reflects a shared ambition between Live Nation France and Art Basel Paris to bring artistic and cultural scenes into dialogue and create new opportunities for contemporary French creativity to connect with audiences in France and beyond.
GOD HATES SPACE will be accessible free of charge from October 22 to 25, 2026, during Art Basel Paris, offering visitors to the fair and the wider public a new gateway into the world of the fair.
GOD HATES SPACE: A NEW IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE IN THE WORLD OF GENER8ION
GOD HATES SPACE is part of GENER8ION’s fragmented narrative set in the near future. For its first presentation in France, the Rotonde d’Antin becomes an immersive audiovisual space designed to bring the film and sound into dialogue with the architecture of the venue.
The project extends the universe of LOVE & TEARS, GENER8ION’s new album, released on June 12, 2026, with the track God Hates Space feat. 070 Shake serving as one of its opening chapters.
GENER8ION: BETWEEN MUSIC AND IMAGE
Created by Surkin and Romain Gavras, GENER8ION has developed an artistic language in which musical and visual creation are inseparable.
Surkin, whose real name is Benoît Heitz, is a French producer, composer, and DJ associated with the French Touch 2.0 generation. His work spans electronic music, cinema, fashion, and visual arts. He notably composed the soundtrack for ATHENA, Romain Gavras’s third feature film.
A French-Greek filmmaker who emerged from the Kourtrajmé collective, Romain Gavras has established a distinctive visual language through works that have helped shape contemporary culture. He has directed music videos including Justice’s Stress, M.I.A.’s Born Free, Jamie xx’s Gosh, and Jay-Z and Kanye West’s No Church in the Wild, as well as the feature films Our Day Will Come, The World Is Yours, ATHENA, and his latest film Sacrifice, set to be released on Netflix on October 16, 2026.
Their collaboration continues to expand internationally. Their recent project STORM with Yung Lean gained significant exposure following their performance at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, which received widespread coverage in international media.
The track has surpassed 60 million streams on Spotify and reached the global Shazam Top 5, ranking No. 1 in the United States and Canada.
With GOD HATES SPACE, GENER8ION continues to develop its ever-expanding universe in Paris, offering a new encounter between cinema, music, and physical space.
