Art Basel at 50 – the 2010s

‘I have been in the art world for more than 50 years, and when you see things changing, quite often you cannot even understand the change, because you are part of it.’

‘The first decade and a half of the 21st century saw possibly more changes in the art market than there had been for 100 years, and it has emerged as a very different global trading ground than it was 20 years ago. Some of the biggest changes have been in its size, its geographical distribution, and the polarization of values at the top end and in modern and postwar, and contemporary art.’

‘We had the honor of participating at Art Basel in Basel in 2011, where 100 Tonson Gallery was the first Thai gallery to join and the only gallery to be invited from Southeast Asia. We showed Rirkrit Tiravanija’s participatory work, Untitled 2011 (who’s afraid of … ), which was attended by the artist. Nearly 80 visitors contributed to his wall drawings, while more than 1,000 participated in his signature culinary “conversation.” A very successful project!’
