Art Basel Miami Beach 2025

Thursday, December 4th, 11:30am-15:15pm

Art and sports have long mirrored each other: both require discipline, imagination, and the drive to create something extraordinary. Today, their intersection has never felt more relevant. Athletes are turning to art to express identity and purpose beyond competition, while artists are engaging with sports to investigate ideas of power, community, and resilience.

In 2025, the Conversations program at Art Basel in Miami Beach presented Sports × Art, a day of talks bringing together leading voices from both fields to explore why this convergence is happening now – and how it is reshaping culture itself.

Throughout the day, participants including two-time Super Bowl champion Malcolm Jenkins, artist Tavares Strachan, former NBA star Elliot Perry, artist Suzanne Lacy, and New Zealand women’s national team captain Ali Riley explored shared terrain between practice and transformation, innovation and legacy, gender and visibility. Together, they considered how collecting, collaboration, and representation can redefine success and legacy – both on and off the field.
