A new commission by digital artist DeeKay Kwon, DeePle The People (2026) serves as a vibrant tribute to Hong Kong. The title itself offers a key to the artist's broader mission – a portmanteau of 'DeeKay' and 'People' – one that underscores his interest in capturing human diversity and spirit.

Created as a commission between Art Basel Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the 24-second animation depicts a bustling city intersection rendered in Kwon’s unmistakable style: a nostalgic video game aesthetic infused with joyful tenderness. The scene is alive with dozens of characters of different ages, races, and occupations, all moving through a landscape dotted with recognizable symbols of Hong Kong. The work presents the city as both a specific, vibrant locale and a universal stage for connection.

DeePle The People will be projected onto the Hong Kong Club Building from March 24–29, 2026, each evening from 7–11pm. Kwon’s work is also on view in his solo booth with AOTM Gallery at the fair, as part of Zero 10’s Asia debut.
