Art Basel’s ‘Meet the collectors’ series celebrates today’s most inspiring patrons

‘Jean Prouvé is our passion,’ says French gallerist and collector Patrick Seguin. Together with his wife Laurence, he has devoted his life to 20th-century French design and architecture. He has played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the legacy of Jean Prouvé, as well as Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret, and Le Corbusier. At the Seguins’ home in Paris’s Marais district, life and art seamlessly intersect. ‘We’re committed to a dialogue between art, architecture, and design,’ he explains. ‘Our house is also my workplace. I meet collectors, artists, and gallerists here, as well as friends.’

While his early focus centered on Postwar French Modernism, Seguin’s interests now embrace contemporary art. Today, the collection also includes key pieces by Damien Hirst, Richard Prince, Jonas Wood, and Laura Owens, among others. ‘I have a very special, privileged relationship with these artists,’ he says.
