Catalyzed by the Covid-19 crisis, there has been an acceleration in digital promotion by galleries and fairs: a proliferation of online viewing rooms as well as virtual exhibitions and studio tours – and even an unexpectedly solid stream of online sales for some galleries.

Ahead of the launch of the second edition of Art Basel's Online Viewing Rooms, this week's panel discussed the rise of the digital in the contemporary art market.  Marc Spiegler, Global Director, Art Basel, was joined by art advisor Ashley Carr, Paris gallerist Kamel Mennour, and Indonesian collector Arif Suherman. How does this digital shift change the dynamic between galleries and collectors? Once galleries and fairs reopen fully, which strategies will be retained?
