Candida Höfer Pavlovsk Palace Pavlovsk IX 2014, 2014 C-print 180 x 219 cm 70 7/8 x 86 1/8 inches Edition of 6 This new work from Candida Höfer’s most recent series of St. Petersburg will be debuted at Art Basel Hong Kong 2015. Pavlovsk Palace, an 18th-century Russian Imperial residence near St. Petersburg, is now a Russian state museum and park. This new series of photographs was taken last year during a ten day shoot in St. Petersburg and will be the focus of a major solo exhibition at The Hermitage Museum from June to September 2015. The series also features images of The Hermitage, Yusopov Palace, Mariinsky Theatre and Catherine Palace. Produced using only natural light with a long exposure and untouched by digital alteration, Höfer’s photographs couple a rare intimacy with monumentality of scale. A member of the Düsseldorf School (Kunstakademie Düsseldorf), Höfer was a noted pupil of Bernd and Hilla Becher.
