Ori Gersht On Reflection, Virtual B08, 2014 Archival inkjet print 100 x 80 cm 39 3/8 x 31 1/2 inches Edition of 6 + 2AP Celebrated Israeli artist Ori Gersht is known for his photographs and films exploring the themes of life, death, violence, illusion and beauty. In his On Reflection series, Gersht uses the still life genre as a template, referencing a set of three flower paintings by Jan Breughel (The Elder) from the early 1600s. He does not, however, present the viewer with direct images of the still life; instead Gersht photographs the reflections of his meticulously constructed scenes in a distorted or fractured mirror. The image is thus broken up into multiple planes of focus, resulting in a thought-provoking kaleidoscopic representation.
