Karmelo Bermejo Theological Particleboard, 2013 Plywood 'Theological Particleboard' is made of 1000 wooden crosses bought in the religious craft shops in the surroundings of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. This piece challenges its owner to use it as raw material like a common board. When the board is exhibited, two labels are placed next to the piece. One displays information about the title, technique and author of the board, and the other informs about the title, technique and authorship of the usage made of the board as conceived by the possessor. The board is signed by Karmelo Bermejo with invisible ink, so as not to interfere with its usage. Theological Particleboard inverts the usual manufacturing process of objects by obtaining a cheap raw material from a manufactured good provided with an increase in value. A video documenting the process can be accessed on the internet through a password which is only provided to the owner of the work.
