Wang Keping Les Spectateurs–Femme et Homme, 1999 Plane Les Spectateurs (Homme): 340 x 100 x 99 cm Les Spectateurs (Femme): 340 x 128 x 85 cm The two massive sculptures “Les Spectateurs–Femme et Homme” (The Spectators – Woman and Man) were created for the 1999 exhibition “Les Champs de la Sculptures” in Paris along the Champs Elysées. Wang Keping worked on immense trees to create the works of Woman and Man. The forms join the natural components of the wood such as the knots and grains to form the brutal shapes that the artist transforms into figuration. The woman towers over the man; Keping has always put more importance on woman throughout his career. Now at the age of 65, Keping confesses that he will no longer be able to make large-scale works making these pieces a precious and unique part of his life works which have never been exhibited in Hong Kong.
