Botero's pictures, with influences from South America, pre-Columbian Art as well as modern artists like Diego Rivera, and from Europe, like Rubens and Velazquez, celebrate life. The women he paints are the personification of life, not fat but ample, not shapeless but voluptuous, sensuously regal and demanding respect. And while he always depicts them in a slightly satirical way, he does not ridicule them. Botero likes people - and especially women - and that is visible in his paintings.
