Sculpture in two parts, mixed media
Maria Loizidou Pelage, 2013 Sculpture in two parts, mixed media Total approx. dimensions: 130 x 41 x 41 cm Courtesy Kalfayan Galleries, Athens – Thessaloniki. The work of Maria Loizidou - who in 2014 had a solo show at the Cyprus Museum in Nicosia and was short listed for the Curate Award of the Fondazione Prada and the Qatar Museums Authority with the project “Directly Mild” - addresses issues of concern to humans in their everyday lives and isolates moments of the "other", our other self, and of relationships in general that describe and maintain the strength of fragility. Her hand-knitted sculptures made of stainless steel and metallic thread negotiate the strength of fragility. Her subjects are related to the anthropomorphic body, the human condition and the idea of the body as a shell.
