Karl Haendel Inked #7, 2013 Pencil on cut paper with steel frame 69 1/2 x 51 inches 176.5 x 129.5 cm As the newest addition to Mitchell-Innes & Nash’s contemporary program, Karl Haendel’s drawings fixate on found and self-made photographs, constructing a liminal reality with the artist’s very personal reference points. Haendel thematically investigates time, romantic exploration, and failure. In addition to receiving his BA from Brown University and his MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles, Haendel also studied at the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1999. His works are in the public collections of the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York, as well as the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art and La Colección Jumex in Mexico City in addition to other distinguished collections.
