Nobuyoshi Araki Pseudo Diary,1980 Gelatin silver print Image size: 29.5 x 40.5 cm Paper size: 35.5 x 43.3 cm Set of 43 "Pseudo Diary", a photographic diary of images taken with a compact camera that show April 1st (April Fool’s Day) as the day, in which they were shot. The first cameras with a date function were introduced to the public in the 80’s and Araki switched the past with the future by manipulating the dates. This is Araki’s first attempt to fake reality. Anything in front of you, except a real object, is fake. Photographers might consider how to express their love through photography, but those photographs are "fake love." That is how Araki makes the future and past. That’s why he entitled it "Pseudo-Diary."
