Davide Balula Painting the roof of your mouth (Ice Cream), 2015 Ice cream parlor complete with a counter, glass display cabinets, chairs, tables, an ice cream cart and hanged paintings. Project for Parcours Art Basel 2015. Davide Balula presents an edible retrospective in the form of an ice cream shop, with each flavor representing a painting series from Balula’s oeuvre. The flavors will be derived from Balula’s ongoing investigation of the transformation and evolution of natural elements such as burnt wood, dirt and river sediments. His Burnt Paintings (2009-2015), River Paintings (2009-2015) and the Buried Paintings (2010-2015) will be translated into ice cream flavors with the help of Michelin Award winning chef, Daniel Burns (Luksus, NY, former head pastry chef of Noma, Copenhagen). Although the ice cream will be distributed in various locations throughout the fair, the work will only be experienced under the roof of the public’s mouth. Photo by Raphael Fanelli.
