IMI Knoebel Ich nicht, 2005 Acrylic, aluminium and plastic sheet 283 x 231 x 7,4 cm Imi Knoebel is primarily known for his minimalist and abstract paintings and sculptures that explore the relationship between space, picture support and colour. In 2014/15 he had a major retrospective at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg and at Museum Haus Esters, Krefeld, Germany. The work that we will show in Basel, entitled Ich nicht II (lit. Eng. “not me”), was made in response to Barnett Newman’s Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue from the late 1960s, while the work Nummer 1A – 8A was made in response of “the houses” of Malevich.
