 Set of 4 Each: 30.48 x 45.72 cm Mariam Suhail’s work stems from the incidental, undocumented minutia of conversations, media, culture, and the everyday. She employs language from these sources to dissect and re-present what may exist in the spaces between exchanges, ideas, historical events and daily occurrences, resulting in works in sculpture, video, digital images, text and drawing. Short Bio: Mariam Suhail’s recent presentations include the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), the 8th edition of the Berlin Biennale (2014), a solo project at Discoveries, Art Basel Hong Kong (2013); showed in a triple feature at the Tilton Gallery, New York (2013) and at the Skoda Prize 2012 Exhibition at the NGMA, New Delhi (2013). Solo exhibitions include Breakdown of Shorter Concerns (2011) and fig. 1. (2009), both exhibited at GALLERYSKE, Bangalore. Suhail’s work has featured in Extra/Ordinary, 37 Do-It Yourself Art Ideas For Free, curated by Rashid Rana at Canvas Gallery, Karachi (2013); Her Work is Never Done, curated by Bose Krishnamachari at Gallery BMB, Mumbai (2010); Some Blind Alleys, curated by Ina Puri at Anant Art Gallery, Delhi (2007) and Sites of Substance, curated by Salima Hashmi, one of ten inaugural shows of the National Art Gallery, Islamabad (2007). In 2006, Suhail’s work was exhibited in 256 Shades (VASL Pakistan & Artist Commune Hong Kong) at VM Art Gallery, Karachi; Places Real and Imagined, curated by Atteqa Ali at Al Hamra Art Centre, Lahore and in Flights of Fancy, curated by Quddus Mirza at Royaat Art Gallery, Lahore. Suhail has participated in the Tanera Mor 3- island International artist residency in Scotland (2007) and was part of the Khoj International Artists’ workshop in Mumbai (2005). In 2002, she was part of Aar Paar, an artist-initiated public art project between artists from India and Pakistan, facilitated by Shilpa Gupta and Huma Mulji. She has taught at the School of Visual Arts and Design, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore and the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi. Suhail lives and works in Bangalore.
