Muntean/Rosenblum Untitled (There were things…), 2012 Crayon and cut out on paper 39 x 54,5 cm Muntean/Rosenblum (both born in 1962) have worked in collaboration since 1992. Their drawings, paintings, and films are often shown as part of larger installations that contextualize the work and create a system of precise ambiguity. Their typical style - a mixture of figurative and abstract elements - often exposes young people in "pathos-formulas," referring to Aby Warburg's concept which suggests that certain gestures and tropes exist in a huge unconscious reservoir spanning across specific cultural arrangements and times. What interests the artists here is the “formula,” since it points towards something that has been proven to work and that becomes repeatable. In their drawings - they either work on small-format paper or directly on large canvas - Muntean/Rosenblum use found material from magazines and journals, collective and media images of a consumer oriented youth culture to raise questions of identity and the subject. Recent exhibitions include Institut für moderne Kunst, Nuremberg (2014), CAC Malaga (2012), Georg Kargl Fine Arts, Vienna (2012), CGAC Santiago de Compostela (2010), MUSAC Leon (2009), Mucsarnok Budapest (2009), Sammlung Essl (2008/09), Galerie für Zeitgenössische Kunst, Leipzig (2007), MAK, Vienna (2006), Tate Britain (2004), and Amsterdam’s De Appel Museum (2002). Their works are in several collections such as MOMA, NY, Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection, Miami, Inelcom, Madrid, MUSAC, Leon, MUMOK, Vienna, Burger Collection, Berlin, Saatchi Collection, London.
