Lyonel Feininger City at the Edge of the World, c. 1925-55 Set of 68 carved and painted wooden figures, houses, animals, and one bridge Max. height: 3 7/8 inches / 10 cm   Note:   This set of 68 carved and painted figures and houses (including one bridge, a cat, and an elephant) is the largest group of three-dimensional works by Lyonel Feininger in existence. Executed between 1925 and 1955, it was assembled and maintained by the artist’s eldest son, the photographer Andreas Feininger (1906- 1999), and his wife, Wysse. As such, many of the figures and houses feature prominently in City at the Edge of the World, a book of photographs of Lyonel Feininger’s painted figures and houses, which was published by Andreas and T. Lux Feininger in 1966.
