In June 2015, the Dutch National Opera presented the complete version of Lulu, staged and directed by William Kentridge, in a co-production with the Metropolitan Opera New York and English National Opera. The production will travel to New York in October, and to London in 2016.
Kentridge was inspired for his staging by German Expressionist films and printmaking from the 1920s and ‘30s, the time in which Lulu was composed. The artist has been working on this production of the opera for several years; these three hand-painted bronze sculptures form part of a series of works created in preparation.
