LiMAC In 2002, this fictitious museum was created to fill an institutional void in the city of Lima. This non memory was first filled with the “souvenirs” (mugs, eraser, pencils, mouse pads, hats, etc.) of a non-existent museum, and followed by a collection of appropriations made by the artist and a website from which it is projected as a real museum. Having no permanent physical space, LiMAC appears and disappears in the artist’s studio in Madrid and in different exhibition spaces, for collective and individuals shows. In 2010 LiMAC was commission by the 29th Sao Paulo Biennial to “loan” a series of works that could not be lent by another museum. Thus, the LiMac collection, not only fills the gaps in its own city, but serves as a tool to create, from the periphery, original objects, which, although not the real ones, are needed to strengthen our belonging to a culture which is simultaneously proper and foreign.
