Gelatin Silver Print on Fiber Base Paper
Cans with their labels peeled off seem to be floating in space as if they’d been thrown into the air. The large, slightly unfocused silver cylinders floating in the middle of the 109 × 77 centimeter prints are a strange presence of unknown contents. The cans are mass-produced objects that can only be identified by their labels. A critique of substance in mass consumer society and a questioning of the meaning of identity, this series is also oddly humorous. “C. V. N. I.” stands for Conserve Volant Non Identifié (unidentified flying canned goods), a play on objet volant non identifié, or unidentified flying object.
