According to the Talmud, Lilith (Hebrew for " night creature") was the first wife of Adam. She escaped her intended role as the subordinate companion and left Adam. She fled to the uninhabited shore of the Red Sea, pursued by angels who were not able to persuade her to return. She is considered an outcast and a demon.
