Kao, a photographer and collector of historical pictures as well as a filmmaker, animator, and media-archeologist. Inspired by Man Ray’s The Encounter of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella (1920), Kao’s The Encounter Between Gas Mask and Squad Six-Five-Nine in Front of the Lightbox transforms the original image-capturing and displaying function of the wasted 16mm camera and monitor, into a decorator and illuminator. Also, by providing the glass negative a set of codes, Kao re-summons the memory of history and reconstructs the narrative between the fact and fiction.
