In this particular work Fleury translates a popular fabric print by Italian luxury brand Valentino into a round canvas, raising a fashion trend into the sphere of art. The mixture of high and low concepts is common in Fleury’s artistic practice. Not least of all, the artist also inverts the idea of Yves Saint Laurent’s use of a Piet Mondrian’s Composition of Red, Blue and Yellow (1921) as a print for his famous cocktail dress from 1965.
