Horacio Coppola is one of the major photographers of the 20th-century vanguard. His work has been exhibited internationally together with works from his first wife, acclaimed photographer Grete Stern, most recently in 2015 at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (‘From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires’). Our Kabinett is a concise anthology, composed of pieces that show Coppola’s trajectory from the years prior to his stay at the Bauhaus in Berlin from 1930 – 1933, through his travels to Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Budapest, Prague, London and Paris, culminating with his best-known and appreciated series, Buenos Aires 1936. In addition to his work in photography, Coppola also made four highly praised documentary films: Der Traum (Berlin, 1933); Les Quais de la Seine (Paris, 1934); A Sunday on Hampstead Heath (London, 1935); and The Birth of the Obelisk (Buenos Aires, 1936).
