马蹄笼 (Ma Ti Long, 2016) comes in the form of a birdcage found at the Yuehe Flower and Bird Market in Guangzhou. The cage is made out of bamboo that is grown for over 10 years in the mountains of south China, and left for a further 10 years in order to retain its shape. Named “water chestnut cage” due to its broad shape, the cage is usually used to keep lovebirds. The smaller cage located within is for keeping a grasshopper as the bird’s food.
