The work Due stems from the work that Massimo Bartolini presented in the Italian Pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. The work consists of a low ramp in an open space, made up of a bronze cast of rubble: an enigmatic sculpture and trompe l’oeil that invites the viewer into a new perspective of space. ‘In these times, I feel like being above a cusp, between two seasons: the earlier one of inconsiderate monumental optimism and the latter one, of a sober restraint that leads to a reflexive reduction. Constructing a monument made of rubble is like celebrating an end, which in turn is the beginning of a possible bridge between these two seasons, and reveals the paradox of their coexistence.’ – Massimo Bartolini, 2013
