Walks In Walks Out

Video/Film
HD Video installation
Initially created for Sperone Westwater to determine the correct scale for projecting the seven-part video installation Contrapposto Studies, i through vii (2015/16), Bruce Nauman’s Walks In Walks Out uses the artist’s height as a guide. The artist is shown walking in and out of each of the seven video projections in order to demonstrate scale and, in doing so, adds another illusive layer to the work. His Contrapposto Studies, i through vii, exhibited at Sperone Westwater during September and October of 2016, takes as a point of departure the artist’s formative 1968 work Walk with Contrapposto, in which Nauman executes an exaggerated walk along a tall, narrow corridor. Here, Nauman digitally transforms a singular gesture into an increasingly complex visual and auditory experience.
