Martinez’s practice engages in “bad painting,” knowingly rebelling against the classical canons of good taste, draghtsmanship, material and representation. He freely negates the rules of accepted aesthetic conduct by deliberately depictng distorted human forms, presented in hyper color. As Status Magazine states, “Pow Martinez paints the picture real quick: there’s no room for sugarcoats and pastel paradises. Making his own colorful world of distorted pop laden with a tongue-in-cheek wit, anything from oil to acrylic and paper to canvas is fair game.”
