Initiated by LGBTQ people of color, femmes, and mutants, Mutant Salon is a functional beauty salon and platform for new media and performances that unravels culturally-embedded ideas of beauty and celebrates transformation in the act of self-care. "Mutant Salon: Exorcises" subverts the exercise video genre; it destabilizes commonly-held ideals of athleticism, fitness, gender, and beauty; it embraces and affirms different bodies. “Mutant Salon: Exorcises” invites viewers to participate in exercises that include queer femme hysterics, using workout equipment of our own making, pushing bodies to a potentially unobtainable, convulsive limit, and asses pumped up to explosion.
