Sonia Delaunay-Terk was the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition at the Louvre in 1964, and in 1975 was named an officer of the French Legion of Honor. She not only applied her modern geometric abstraction to paintings and prints, but also to furniture, fabrics, wall coverings and clothing. Like her husband, Sonia Terk studied the effects of light, colour and movement. After World War II, she intensely dealt with these themes in the series 'Rhythme', 'Rhythme coloré', and 'Rhythmes-couleurs'.
