Hamburg, Germany In Aún no somos escombros, Germany 2016, Regina José Galindo takes possession of the historical memory of the women who after the end of WWII removed the ruins of the buildings from the German cities destroyed by the bombings to free the streets or recuperate materials for new buildings. The image of smiling women hard at work intent of clearing away debris with shovels and pails or with their bare hands is present in many historic reports, school books, film and TV documentaries, and in the post-war years, it became a constituting element of the history of Germany and an icon in the German collective memory.
